Kamisu produces a wealth of specialty foods such as marine products andships more bell peppers than anywhere else in Japan. Atthe same time, there are also more 180petrochemical and other industrial companies that are located in the Kashima Coastal IndustrialZone that is centered on the Port ofKashima. Kamisu boasts the highest value of shippedmanufactured products in Ibaraki Prefecture.This year marks the 10th anniversary of the City of Kamisu. With citizen participation as thecore concept of Kamisu’s town planning, the city is working hard to create aneven moreliveable environment by improving its medical, education, and social welfare systems. Since theGreat East Japan Earthquake of 2011, Kamisu has also been givingtop priority to safety andsecurity by implementing measures to make the city more resistant to disaster and to acceleraterestoration and recovery.In addition, the activities of the city’s mascot“Kamisu Koko-kun,”and the publicizing of itsspecial attributes, such as its natural environment and industrial zone, as well asits brand ofspecialty products, have been helping to enhance the city’s image and name recognition.Kamisu is aiming to further develop as a city that can flexibly respond tochanging social andeconomic conditions and other new challenges. can be conveyed through this directory.
